ZOOMmobile was incorporated on August 25, 1998, as Reliance Telecommunications Limited (Reltel Wireless), taking advantage of the deregulation of the sector by the then Federal Government of Nigeria.

The company obtained a National Licence subsequently to provide fixed wireless telephone Services in Nigeria.

Nortel Networks of USA deployed the first state-of-the-art Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) equipment operating on 1900 MHz frequency. Full commercial operations commenced in Nigeria in November 2001.

With the expiration of exclusive mobility period enjoyed by the GSM operators, Zoom Mobile successfully applied for the Unified Access Service License, enabling it to provide full roaming services in all its areas of coverage.

The ZOOMmobile person is a skilled professional who is knowledgeable about his/her area of specialization. A consultant in his/her own right.

Chief, Sir (Senator) Annie Okonkwo
Annie Okonkwo is the founding Chairman. Okonkwo lists a strong educational background and substantial track record of business successes. He is intensely familiar with the key players in the Nigerian economy. His broad business interests also include oil and gas, banking and finance, manufacturing and commodity trading. He is a National Merit Award winner for Productivity as well as a recipient of the prestigious Dr. Nkrumahs African Leadership Award for Enterprise. He is an alumnus of the Harvard Business School Entrepreneurship program. He is a serving senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and is married with children.

Mr. Kenneth Aigbinode
Joined the company in July 2005 as the first Executive Vice Chairman. Experienced in corporate governance, corporate re-structuring, marketing, and brand re-positioning, he brings his rich banking pedigree to the telecommunications industry. A veteran banker with over 25 years experience in banking (the last 15years being at senior management and board levels) He is a facilitator of banking programmes and is on the editorial board of Credit Risk Deskmate a widely circulated industry journal.

Mr. Tony Okonkwo
Tony Okonkwo is the Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of RELTELWIRELESS. He commenced his corporate career as an analyst at the First Securities Discount House in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. A U.S. trained financial expert, Okonkwo is an astute and shrewd financial strategist. He is known, in business circles, as a forthright, honest and savvy investor. He holds a Masters degree in Financial Management from Northeastern University, Boston, USA, and is a member of The Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM). He is married, with children.

Air Vice Marshal Canice Umenwaliri (Rtd)
An engineer, a retired Air Vice Marshall of the Nigerian Air Force. An alumnus of the Command and Staff College, Jaji, Umenwaliri has held key military appointments, including Director of Air Engineering. He undertook many overseas military courses, including Basic and Advanced Military Training in Germany, Air France Technicians course also in Germany and Mechanical Engineering course of the Royal Airforce in Cranwell in the United Kingdom.

Umenwaliri, was appointed Minister of Communications from 1998 till the transition to civil rule on May 29, 1999. He has received several honours and awards, including the Defence Service and National Service Medals and the Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR). He is a full member of the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM).

Dr. Tom Adaba
He holds a Ph.D in Mass Communication and Theatre Arts. He was the first Director-General of the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) from 1992 to 1999. The seasoned academic was the arrow-head of the deregulation and liberalization of private broadcasting in Nigeria. He was a deputy director of operations at the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), Lagos and General Manager of NTA, Makurdi. Adaba is also an Associate Professor of Mass Communications at the Madonna University in Okija, Anambra State.
